Date: Saturday, April 11th, 2009
Venue
almer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX – 78704 – It is a truly grand place and this year’s show promises to be more professional than ever.
General Description: Our annual Talent Show is a South Asian cultural extravaganza where students display their unique talents to members of the University of Texas and the Austin community. We showcase nationally competing groups and acts of similar caliber to an audience of over 1200 people. These groups perform a diverse collection of music and dance ranging from classical to fusion styles, incorporating both Indian and Western cultures. The diversity of our showcase adds a special dimension to this university and helps spread awareness about Indian culture and the arts. We plan to uphold our tradition and deliver yet another amazing show this year. This year, our show is called “Taal”, inspired from the namesake Hindi word that means “rhythm”.
Event Description: A 3 hour long cultural competitive show with over 12 dance and band/vocal performances from professional and unprofessional groups of the University of Texas at Austin encompassing Indian culture of some form.
Goals:
· To put on a large-scale performance extravaganza highlighting the Indian entertainment industry and thus educating the UT Campus about Indian tradition and culture.
· To stage a fair and competitive event for the South Asian community on the University of Texas at Austin’s campus inculcating both dance performances and music performances.
Purposes:
· To promote and spread Indian culture on the University of Texas at Austin’s campus through traditional and contemporary Indian dances and song.
· To provide an opportunity to various Indian dance and music groups to compete in a a healthy, fair and awarding talent show.
